4 Ways to Keep Your Home Organized With Small Children

I am a mom of 3 living in a townhome where space is limited. My goal is to maximize the use of our space while limiting clutter and keeping everything easily accessible. As you know, mess can get out of control really quickly.   Here are 4 ways to keep your home organized with small children.

1. Since we do not wear shoes in the house, I keep a shoe cabinet at the front door so we can put our shoes right into the cabinet as we enter our home. Lower shelves are allocated to the kids so they can easily access their footwear at any time. Constant reminders to put their shoes away for months finally got them in the routine of always putting their shoes away the minute they enter the house.

2. I create drop zones throughout our home with decorative baskets of different sizes to store various items so everything is stored and out of sight. When there is a dedicated spot for everything, it makes keeping the house tidy a lot easier. By the front door, I have hanging wall baskets to store items that I can easily grab on the way out such as sunscreen and wipes. The kids can easily drop their hats in the basket when they come home as well.

3. Multifunctional furniture pieces are a major help to keep your spaces organized with small children. This ottoman hides toys and random knick knacks that the kids always seem to have lying around. It can be also used as a side table by the couch (while it is styled) and is prefect for additional seating when needed. I like to use pull-out bins to keep all the little toys such as legos and blocks organized. They are super handy for a quick clean-up while everything is sorted and easily accessible.

4. When you live in a smaller home every inch matters. For smaller spaces, utilize under the bed, couch and cabinet spaces to store toys, book and clothes. This flat baskets is great for that, both functional and cute.
