One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is to have friends and family over for dinner. It is the time when everyone is in one space and can spend quality time together over a meal. This time of the year can also get very stressful, so I am sharing how to create a simple and elegant Christmas tablescape here to take some stress off your shoulders.
When it comes to setting the dining table I like to go a little extra. When I say extra I do not mean to overcrowd the table with pieces we likely won’t use during the meal, rather putting extra effort into the little details. Keep it simple, yet sophisticated.
1. Select your color palette. I like to keep mine neutral, so I can use some of the items that I already have. White, beige, grey and some red for a pop of color with greenery. Start with setting your place mats and plates centered in front of your chairs and positioned directly across from each other.
Using the same shape for both your mats and plates will crate a more uniform look. I love these Mackenzie Childs charger plates. The muted checkered pattern will make the tablescape look more elegant. If you use tablecloth that should be laid down first. However, I often opt not to use one.
2. For Christmas and special occasions I use rose gold or yellow gold tones for flatware, for a more elevated look. Set it with prongs facing up and in order of use outside in. This is one of the prime occasions to break out your crystals if you have any, they should be placed above the right hand setting.
3. Place the napkins into the plates. This is one of my favorite steps when I create a Christmas tablescape. There are many easy ways to fold napkins and it is such an easy way to create a simple and elegant Christmas table scape. I folded the napkin into this Christmas tree which makes it feel a bit more festive.
4. Add decor. This is where you can get creative. Since my goal was to create a simple look I went with garlands. It really brings the outside in and gives the setting an organic feel. I added fairy lights which will set the mood. For a pop of color and to elevate the look I added simple candle sticks with red candles.
